From July 15 to August 28, 2024, the public inquiry for the environmental authorization of the Aménagements Ferroviaires au Sud de Bordeaux (AFSB) took place.
The SGPSO contributed to this inquiry with the aim of pointing out that the AFSB and, more broadly, the Ligne Nouvelle are necessary to enable and support the development of rail passenger and freight traffic in the South-West and on the cross-border Atlantic corridor. In particular, it will contribute to regional development in line with sustainable development objectives.
Here, we highlight the advantages of the AFSB:
- Offering new rail capacity for everyday transport, AFSBs encourage the modal shift of both passengers and goods from road to rail, thereby helping to reduce carbon emissions, greenhouse gases and atmospheric pollutants.
- Opening up the South-West as part of the Ligne Nouvelle, in line with the recommendations of the latest IPCC report, and facilitating cross-border links with the Iberian peninsula.
- As pointed out in the opinion of the French Environmental Authority (Ae) on the AFSB, the SNCF project owner is fully committed to controlling the environmental impact of the project.
